Carl Wallbank 4th in Pre-Worlds
British hang glider pilot Carl Wallbank (Moyes Litespeed) finished 4th in the Pre-World Championships at Monte Cucco in Italy in July.
A resurgent Manfred Ruhmer won the competition with some remarkably consistent flying, with Australia's Jonny Durand second and Mario Alonzi of France third. The British team finished in fourth place behind the Italians, flying well on home turf, Austria and France.
Kirsty Cameron wins first Women's Open
Kirsty Cameron (Advance Omega 8) led all the way through four tasks of the inaugural Women's Paragliding Open at Ager at the end of August.
"I always wondered who would lead out on tasks with no guys," she reported. "It was a new experience for me." Ruth Churchill-Dower (Advance Sigma 7) also flew well to claim 7th place, and Judith Mole (Axis Vega 2) finished 20th.
The BHPA's office headquarters has relocated to a brand new two-storey 4,000ft2 office unit in Leicester, jointly owned by the BHPA and the British Gliding Association. The new premises are part of a new development on the west side of Leicester close to the M1.
The Loughborough Road office closed on Friday September 10th, and the new headquarters opened for business on Tuesday September 14th.

The Long Mynd club will be celebrating paragliding through films and lectures on Saturday December 4th at the Shrewsbury Gateway Leisure Centre.
Speakers will include Toby Colombé and Steve Nash; films will include Jocky Sanderson’s Security in Flight 2. Other attractions will include a talk by the Midland Air Ambulance team, a photography competition and an emergency parachute repack session (£20).
Doors open at 10.30. Tickets cost £10 in advance or £12.50 on the door. Proceeds go to the Midland Air Ambulance. Details are at www.longmynd.org/about/social_uplift.
The Annual General Meeting of the BHPA will be at Bisham Abbey on Saturday February 12 2011. The AGM will include the election of BHPA Officers, members of the Association's Executive Committee (Exec).
If you want to put something back into the Association, or if you feel that the BHPA should be doing something that it isn't, consider putting yourself forward for an Exec position. Talk to any Exec member or to Chairman Martin Heywood to find out what's involved.
