The pilot was running to take off but lifted legs a little early and the seat brushed the ground causing the glider to surge forwards. Student left the ground but the glider rotated and he landed on his right side.

Pilot encountered severe turbulence having gone on glide on leeside of a ridge. Glider collapsed but recovered with twists. Pilot deployed parachute and eventually got main under control. Landed at 7.2m/s and injured ankle.

The student was briefed to make several turns finishing to the left as the wind was coming from the left. At the time when the last left turn would have been appropriate he made a right turn (despite radio instruction) landing fast nearly downwind close to bushes. He ran it off stopping just short of a larger bush but got some scratches from the smaller ones.
