Carl Wallbank 4th in Pre-Worlds
British hang glider pilot Carl Wallbank (Moyes Litespeed) finished 4th in the Pre-World Championships at Monte Cucco in Italy in July.
A resurgent Manfred Ruhmer won the competition with some remarkably consistent flying, with Australia's Jonny Durand second and Mario Alonzi of France third. The British team finished in fourth place behind the Italians, flying well on home turf, Austria and France.
Kirsty Cameron wins first Women's Open
Kirsty Cameron (Advance Omega 8) led all the way through four tasks of the inaugural Women's Paragliding Open at Ager at the end of August.
"I always wondered who would lead out on tasks with no guys," she reported. "It was a new experience for me." Ruth Churchill-Dower (Advance Sigma 7) also flew well to claim 7th place, and Judith Mole (Axis Vega 2) finished 20th.
