The pilot was flying in light thermic conditions and encountered sinking air over an area of trees. The pilot collided with a tree and escaped unhurt as he was restrained from hitting the ground by the wing coming to rest in the tree.

An eyewitness reported the pilot experienced an asymmetric deflation during the take off run, in light thermic conditions. The pilot was seen to fall sideways onto a rock and sustained an injury.

Pilot took off from knee deep heather in strong conditions. Pilot entered thermal and glider immediately entered spin. Pilot struck rock face at speed. Inspection showed speedbar line had been wrapped around vario prior to take-off.
