Pilot suffered symmetric collapse on approach then entered spin. Emergency chute thrown but became entangled in lines and did not deploy. Gathered in for second throw but paraglider now in normal flight. Pilot hung onto chute and landed normally.

While flying low over alpine trees the pilot took both controls in one hand to switch vario off and on. Whilst not in full control of the glider, a thermal came through and pushed the pilot back into the trees.
