Incident reports received by the BHPA are available in summary form on this page. If you're looking for reports of formal investigations undertaken in the case of a serious incident, please visit our Incident Reports (formal investigations) page.
Incident reports for all wing types are displayed below in summary form.
The BHPA incident reports database is fully searchable. To refine your search you can specify a particular wing type and select "or" or "and". For example, if you want to search for paraglider incidents at Hay Bluff, for best search results select paraglider from the drop down list and the "and" option.
If available, total hours flown and hours flown in the previous six months are included below, with the latter displayed in brackets.

During routine kit inspection before start of SIV, reserve deployment failure identified. Damage to harness had most likely happened during accident the previous year. Reserve retaining flap had ripped and reserve had fallen through the hole making deployment impossible. Reserve set up and internal parts of the harness had not been inspected since the accident.

Flexwing Hang Glider
Wing: Airwave Calypso
Launch Type: Foot |
Experienced pilot I chose to test fly the glider for a beginner. On rigging pilot noticed the compression struts were not totally tight but failed to appreciate that with the particular design if loose they could actually detach. The starboard side detached as the glider came under load and was found inside the sail. The resultant turn was unrecoverable and the glider turned and cartwheeled. Pilot chose to keep hold of the uprights rather than take any head impact. This resulted in both broken upper arms.
