Post Code

BHPA Registered Schools will train you at a rate of progress that is suitable for you. They are monitored for safety and the quality of the training they offer and the equipment they use, and their instructors are licensed by the Association.

To find your nearest BHPA registered school, please enter the first part of your post code in the adjacent search box. The approximate location of all UK based BHPA registered schools is shown on the map below. Please click on a marker for further information about a particular school.

NB. This map is only intended as an illustration of the approximate location of BHPA registered schools. Each location is calculated from the first part of the post code of a school‘s registered address, and may not fully reflect a school‘s operational area or the actual location of its premises. Please click on a map marker for more information.

But before you look for a school, please read the following summary of the disciplines available within our sport so that you are able to understand the training options available at each school.

You can launch a paraglider:

  • On foot from a hill (look for a Hill school).
  • By being towed from the ground (look for a Tow school).
  • Using a power unit attached to your harness, this is usually refered to as paramotoring or PPG (look for a Power school).

Hang Gliding
You can launch a hang glider:

  • On foot from a hill (look for a Hill school).
  • By being towed from the ground (look for a Tow school).
  • By being towed by a powered aircraft, this is usually refered to as aerotowing (look for an Aerotow school).

Parascending
Parascending pilots fly canopies that are towed into the air by a Land Rover or winch.

For further information, please visit our Learn to Fly page.

Overseas Training
The BHPA has no remit to regulate foreign schools. Prospective pilots considering overseas ab-initio training should confirm that the school is either a UK based BHPA Registered School conducting overseas training in accordance with BHPA requirements, or is a school operating under the auspices of the governing body of the country concerned. If the latter, check that an IPPI Card qualification is offered.

Advanced Courses. There are no BHPA instructor qualifications or training syllabi for advanced training courses for post-CP pilots, eg XC courses and SIV training, pilots considering undertaking such training must therefore satisfy themselves as to the quality of instruction on offer.

A guidance leaflet on SIV courses is however available in PDF format.
