Learn to Fly - How to Find a Training School |
First, read the details describing the different flying disciplines that are available within the BHPA. Decide which one(s) you are interested in and use the database of BHPA Registered Training Schools to locate appropriate schools which are within your reach. ( Note that not all schools will offer the discipline you want to train in.) Then check the schools' websites and/or ask if they can send you a brochure. You might want to consider an intensive course at a school some distance away if you have the time to spare and a local school cannot offer this facility; as with learning other skills there is a considerable advantage in making the period between instructional sessions as short as possible. When you are confident that you're dealing with the school that best addresses your needs in terms of available time, accessibility, cost and any other requirements you may have, make a booking to begin training. Your flying career will be underway! Some people wish only to sample a day or two of flying training; others are keen to pursue their training to a higher degree of competency - perhaps even to competition level. A list of contacts for recreational flying clubs is available from the database of BHPA Registered Clubs . These contacts are qualified pilots who will be able to recommend a method of instruction and/or school best suited to your situation and needs. You are strongly recommended to contact you local recreational club to discuss you flying ambitions before making a commitment to begin training. Contacting (and perhaps even joining) your local recreational club prior to or during your flying training at a school gives you the opportunity to enjoy the social side of the sport, and gives access to the valuable experience and advice of people who have already been through the training process.
